Shortening of Time
Private celebrants, not a government registry. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.
A shortening of time is permission for a marriage to happen with less than the usual one calendar month of notice.
It is not automatic.
We cannot approve it for you.
Important points first
- the NOIM still needs to be prepared first
- the request must go to a prescribed authority
- the reason must fit one of the official categories
- even if the reason fits, the outcome is never guaranteed
The official categories
The categories in the Marriage Regulations are:
- employment-related or other travel commitments
- wedding or celebration arrangements, or religious considerations
- medical reasons
- legal proceedings
- an error in giving notice
What we can do
We can:
- help you prepare the NOIM
- explain the process
- tell you what page to read next
- marry you if the shortening is approved and we are available
We cannot:
- approve the shortening
- promise an approval
- make the authority decide faster
- backdate paperwork
