Overseas Residents Getting Married in Brisbane

Private celebrants, not a government registry. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

You do not need to live in Australia to get married in Brisbane.

Overseas visitors, temporary visa holders, and long-distance couples can all use this service if they meet the normal legal requirements.

The main things to know

  • you still need a NOIM
  • the NOIM still needs to be given in time
  • the marriage itself still happens in person
  • originals of your key documents must be sighted before the marriage

How the process usually works

  1. Book through the booking form.
  2. Pay the fee.
  3. Prepare your NOIM with NOIM Easy.
  4. Have the NOIM witnessed properly based on where you are signing.
  5. Email us the paperwork and supporting documents.
  6. Once the paperwork is received, we confirm the next available date, time, and place.

If one person is overseas

Sometimes one person can sign the NOIM first so the notice period can begin, provided the other person signs before the marriage and the legal requirements are met.

If your documents are not in English

Plan to organise translations early.
