Registry-style ceremonies by civil celebrants, not a government registry office. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

If You Married Overseas

Private celebrants, not a government registry. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

If you are already legally married overseas, you do not get married again here.

Queensland says a marriage performed and registered under the laws of another country cannot then be registered in Queensland.

If you are already married overseas

Usually, you will need to use the marriage certificate from the country where the marriage was registered.

If that certificate is not in English, you may need a translation for practical use in Australia.

If you want a celebration overseas later

That is different.

Many couples do the legal marriage with us first, then have a separate celebration overseas afterwards.

That can be simpler than dealing with foreign marriage paperwork.
