Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about getting legally married in Brisbane.
What is a paperwork-only marriage?
It is a short legal marriage with the minimum required wording, two witnesses, and the signing of the marriage documents.
Are you a government registry?
No. We are private authorised celebrants offering a registry-style service. We are not part of the Queensland Government.
Do you do weddings?
No. This site is not for full wedding ceremonies. If you want a big ceremony, use a full-service celebrant like Josh Withers. If you want an elopement, use Elopement Collective.
How long before the marriage do we need to send the NOIM?
The NOIM must be given to your celebrant at least one calendar month before the marriage date and no earlier than 18 months before it.
Can we start before the NOIM is ready?
Yes. Book first and pay the fee, then prepare the NOIM and have it witnessed. We can help if you get stuck.
When is our appointment confirmed?
Once the paperwork is received and checked, we confirm the next available date, time, and place based on our availability.
Can one of us sign the NOIM first if the other person is overseas?
Often yes. One person can sometimes sign first so the notice period can start, provided the other person signs before the marriage and the legal requirements are met.
Can we get legally married online?
No. You can prepare paperwork online, but the marriage itself must happen in person with the celebrant, the couple, and two witnesses.
What documents do we usually need?
Usually a passport, or a birth certificate plus photo ID. If either of you has been married before, you also need the divorce order or death certificate.
Do we need our own witnesses?
Yes, unless you arrange help with us. Australian marriage law requires two witnesses aged 18 or over.
What certificate do we get on the day?
You receive the ceremonial certificate on the day. The official marriage certificate is ordered later from Queensland Births, Deaths and Marriages after registration.
What should we do first?
Click the get married link, complete the booking form, and use NOIM Easy if you are ready to start the paperwork.
